Who We Are

The Heights Learning Community provides our children with meaningful and holistic educational experiences, grounded with a faith in God and a love for humanity. We inspire our learners, educators and community partners with a sense of divine wonder and active compassion that contributes to the betterment of the world. Our children flourish with an understanding of who they are and who they can be.

The Heights Learning Community (THLC) is a co-educational independent school, owned and operated by Seventh-day Adventist Schools (NNSW) Ltd, a member of Adventist Schools Australia (ASA). ASA is a part of the worldwide Adventist education system, the largest Protestant education system in the world.

THLC is registered and accredited by the NSW Education Standard Authority (NESA), a body that regulates all independent schools in NSW and prescribes the NSW Curriculum guidelines and outcomes. THLC supports all the regulatory standards and accreditation standards set out by NESA, as well as following all Federal Government guidelines.

In addition, The Heights is a member of the Association of Independent Schools (AIS) of NSW.

The Heights Learning Community is situated 3.7km from the town centre of Maitland, located on the Hunter River, with a wide array of rich heritage and wall art and diverse emerging culture. Originally the home of the Wonnarua Aboriginal Nation, European settlement came in the early 19th Century.

Opened in 1985 with the name, Valley View Adventist School, The Heights is a re-image of a dream formed decades ago to bring Christian education to the lower hunter valley region. As the area presented minimal growth at the time, it was forced to close in 1994. With a dynamic population growth of 25% in the past decade, and estimated to be the 8th largest regional LGA in Australia by 2026 (McCrindle, 2017), The Heights Learning Community is excited to be an integral part of such an emerging community.

We invite you to take a journey to Maitland, along Cessnock Rd, and discover the beautiful and progressive developing suburb of Gillieston Heights. A town rich in aspiration and connection, now boasting a new school community with a desire to follow the same pathway into beyond now.
